University of Ulster (Project Coordinator)

The University of Ulster is a leading UK University based in Northern Ireland. The application will be managed from within Ulster Business School working in conjunction with the University’s International Development Department. Within International Development the UNESCO, Centre was established formally in February 2001 and was marked by the visit of the Director-General of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura and the NI Minister for Further and Higher Education, Dr Sean Farren. The Centre is a recognised research centre within the University and received significant funding from Atlantic Philanthropies to support research and development work in education for pluralism, human rights and democracy. This project supports strategic development within the University with Government ministers in Belfast, Dublin and London backing an initiative by the University of Ulster that puts international development at the heart of its day-to-day life.

Fast Track into IT (FIT)

FIT is an industry-led initiative which works in close collaboration with government departments, national education and training agencies, third level institutions and regional & local development organisations. FIT’s mission is to build an inclusive Smart Economy by creating a fast-track to marketable technical skills for those at risk of long term unemployment. FIT is a registered charity and not for profit organisation established in 1999. The initiative develops and promotes technology-based programmes and career development opportunities for job seekers who have become detached from the labour market in an increasingly knowledge-based economy. FIT programmes have gained international acclaim based on the quality and number of FIT graduates progressing to employment, further education and career advancement. In 2010 over 3,500 job seekers will commence FIT skills for employment programmes and 4,000 people will complete FIT digital literacy courses.
